The Best Part of Waking Up…

My favorite thing in the entire world is coffee. I worked as a barista at a local coffee shop during graduate school and I became somewhat of a coffee snob. On the other hand, I am a Boston girl at heart, and I will never turn down a medium iced from Dunkin Donuts. So I guess I’m not that big of a snob.

There is nothing I love more than a fresh cup of coffee, while I sit on my couch and read or chat with friends. The smell, the flavors, the taste (yes, the taste) are some of life’s greatest pleasures, in my opinion. Today, I’ve put together a shopping guide of some of my most beloved coffee gadgets for you to scope out to become your own barista!

French Press

A French press is an awesome way to make coffee when you have a little extra time on your hands. Pour boiling water over fresh grounds, steep, and press for a fresh cup of coffee, tailored to your taste and strength

Coffee Grinder

One of the ways I enhance my coffee experience, is to use fresh grinds. I usually buy my beans whole to ensure that they will stay fresher, longer. Then, I grind them as needed in my coffee grinder. (HINT: a spice grinder works great as well, and are sometimes less expensive!) No more storing your coffee grinds in the freezer, only to find out they are bitter and have gone bad AS your sipping.

Cold Brew Toddy

Being that we are Northerners, we have a “thing” for iced coffee. One of my favorite memories with my fiancé was a Valentine’s day when we were snowed in under 100 inches of snow in South Boston. We put on our LL Beans and trekked out into the cold solely for the purpose of getting an iced coffee. Like true Bostonians would, our favorite coffee place had opened their doors to serve iced coffee… during a blizzard. Having an iced coffee toddy makes it easy and accessible for us to have iced coffee all day, every day. Let your coffee steep overnight in the fridge for maximum strength. Again, use your fresh grinds for the best taste!

Pod based coffee maker

If I was writing this post two years ago, there is NO WAY this would be on the list. But alas, adulting is hard. And busy. And sometimes, you just need to be able to make one cup of coffee for your thermos on your way out the door! I will always prefer a French press, pour over, or even an old fashioned Mr. Coffee, but for convenience alone, a pod based coffee maker is worth every penny.

I enjoy my coffee with a splash of almond milk, or sometimes black, but don’t be afraid to spice up your cup (life)! There are creamers of all sorts of flavors, different sweeteners, syrups, Bailey’s (he he he) that you can add. How do you like your coffee? Are there any gadgets you just can’t live without?
